Ethics statement

ETHICS STATEMENT

This Ethics Statement applies to the Asia Pacific Journal of Youth Studies (APJYS) published by Institute for Youth Research Malaysia (IYRES). It is based on the ethical guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and outlines the responsibilities of editors, editorial board members, reviewers and
authors.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF AUTHORS

  • Authors are required to ensure that any manuscript submitted represents original and unpublished work. Submissions must not caontain material that has been published elsewhere, either wholly or in part. Authors must also refrain from submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time. 
  • A manuscript under review with this journal must not be sent to another publication until it has been formally rejected or officially withdrawn with approval.
  • If any errors, inaccuracies, or significant issues are discovered after publication, authors are responsible for notifying the Chied Editor or publisher so that appropriate corrections or retraction procedures can be taken.
  • Authors are expected to have made meaningful contributions to the research and must take responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of their work

RESPONSIBILITIES OF REVIEWERS

  • Reviewers are required to declare any potential conflicts of interest before accepting a review assignment. They may decline the invitation if there is a conflict or if they feel insufficiently qualified to evaluate the manuscript.
  • All reviews must be conducted in an objective, fair and professional manner. Reviewers should also alert the Chief Editor if they detect any form of ethical issues such as plagiarism, duplication, or research misconduct.
  • Confidentiality must be always maintained, and manuscript content must not be shared or discussed without authorisation. Reviewers should also ensurethe  originality of submissions and remain vigilant against unethical publishing
    practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF EDITORIAL BOARD MEMBERS

  •  Editorial board members are expected to actively support the growth and improvement of the journal. They should act as representatives of the journaland contribute to its promotion and visibility.
  • They may also be requested to assist in the review process and evaluate assigned manuscripts when necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CHIEF EDITOR

  • The Chief Editor is responsible for assessing submitted manuscripts based solely on academic quality and intellectual contribution, without bias.
  • Confidentiality of submitted manuscripts must be strictly maintained, and information must only be shared with individuals directly involved in the
    publication process.
  • The Chief Editor holds the final authority in deciding which manuscripts are accepted for publication.
  • They are also responsible for seeking feedback from editorial board members, reviewers, and authors to improve the journal’s quality, reputation, and
    visibility.
  • Clear guidance must be provided to authors regarding submission requirements and editorial expectations. The Chief Editor must also ensure that suitable reviewers are selected for each manuscript.

PLAGIARISM

  • Authors must submit work that is entirely original and free from plagiarism. Manuscripts should not have been published previously or be under consideration elsewhere. The editorial office may use plagiarism detection software to screen submissions for similarity with existing publications.
  • Any form of fabricated, falsified, or knowingly inaccurate information is strictly prohibited. When using ideas, data, or text from other sources, proper citationand acknowledgment must be provided.

REPORTING OF RESEARCH

  • Research findings must be reported in a clear, honest, and accurate manner, without data manipulation, fabrication, or misrepresentation. The methodology should be described in sufficient detail to allow other researchers to replicate and verify the results.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST

  • Authors must disclose any financial or other forms of support that could influence the interpretation or presentation of their research. All funding sources related to the study must be clearly stated in the manuscript.

AUTHORSHIP AND COLLABORATION

  • Only individuals who have made significant intellectual contributions to the research should be listed as authors. Those who contributed to a limited or supportive role should be acknowledged appropriately.
  • The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all listed authors meet authorship criteria, and that no eligible contributor is omitted. All co-
    authors must approve the final version of the manuscript prior to submission and agree to its publication.

MULTIPLE OR REDUNDANT PUBLICATION

  • Authors must not submit the same or substantially similar manuscripts to more than one journal at the same time. Publishing the same research findings in multiple journals is considered unethical and is strictly discouraged.

AUTHORSHIP AND COLLABORATION

  • The authors used Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools solely to assist with language editing, grammar enhancement, and manuscript organization. The use of AI was limited to improving the clarity and presentation of the manuscript and did not contribute to the study design, data collection, data analysis, interpretation of findings, or the formulation of conclusions. All substantive intellectual contributions were made by the authors. The authors carefully reviewed, verified, and validated all AI-assisted content and assume full responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and final content of the manuscript.
